Review: Louise Loves Art

Hi everyone,

Despite what you might have expected from the title of today’s blog post, I actually have TWO picture books to share with you!

Review:

Louise Loves Art by Kelly LightLouise

Publisher: Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers, 2014

Genre: Realism, Art

Format: Hardcover, Picture Book

Source: Personal Collection

Louise is preparing for a home gallery to display her masterpiece, but her little brother, Art, has some ideas of his own.

Louise and Andie: The Art of Friendship by Kelly LightLouise and Andie

Publisher: Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers, 2016

Genre: Realism, Art

Format: Hardcover, Picture Book

Source: Public Library

Louise is excited when a new neighbor moves in and hopeful that Andie will love art, too. Will they be able to overcome their “creative differences?”

The art in both of these books is so much fun, and Louise’s energy in both books is contagious. I love the inclusion of the animals because they have so much expression and add plenty of humor to the stories. Look closely for fun little art elements throughout the illustrations, like Rothko Realty on the title page of Louise and Andie. I think Louise Loves Art is my favorite of the two, just because I love the unexpected play on words. It’s also the perfect read-aloud!

I met Kelly Light at the Eric Carle Museum for Louise Loves Art. She was signing books and sharing some Louise-themed activities in the art studio. I learned how to draw the cat and have a great pattern to make my own pair of Louise’s glasses.

Which Louise story is your favorite?!

I was so excited to see the announcement for her next book, even though it’s not related to Louise. Check out her comments on her blog!

tl;dr:

Louise Loves Art: ***** 5/5 stars

Louise and Andie: **** 4/5 stars

In both of these funny picture books, Louise learns what it really takes to make a masterpiece.

Very funny, expressive art
