Sleep Tight Sleepy Bears

Today’s book selection contains all the wonderful features mentioned in yesterday’s book, Count to 10 with a Mouse. There is plenty of repetition and opportunities for young readers to predict what comes next. This book has the added feature of being a great bedtime read. It’s quieting and soothing. It’s the kind of book that makes us feel enveloped in a big hug.
Big bear and little bear are getting read for bed. Big bear gives a great yawn. Little bear gives a great yawn. Big bear stretches. Little bear gives a stretch. Big bear sings a sleepy song. Little bear repeats it. Finally, big bear closes his eyes and whispers goodnight, but little bear has no response. Guess what’s happened there?
The illustrations are also soothing. The pictures are done in light to ever-deepening shades of blues and purples. I love how the end pages are patterned like the quilt the bears will sleep under. It is one of those details that make us feel “tucked in” as we share a relaxing end to our day.
